Chibi’s Guide to Minecraft: Bedrock Potions. A Guide to brewing (Chapter 1: The Bases)

Similar to the suspicious stews article, I’m trying again with writing about potions. The last one was pretty short and ended with another chart from the fan wiki. Like last week, we’re going to give it a better shot and see if I can try this again.

When you’ve gotten to that moment where you’re ready to start brewing potions, but not sure where to start, there are a few basic, single ingredient potions, that are the foundation to the more complex potions you may be brewing later on.

I typically find myself looking for the large flow chart found of the fan wiki. It can be a great reference tool when you just don’t know what you need for what potion. However, I wanted to start getting the hang of having a book in game that I can keep that kind of reference around.

So, I did just that. I started jotting down some potions on a book and quill in Minecraft. Giving each ingredient a spooky spin on its normal name and everything. With that being said, let’s go over chapter 1 and take a look at the bases.

Awkward potion

The awkward potion isn’t going to affect you on its own if you drink it. However, it’s the baseline for the majority of other potions. In order to brew it, you’ll need to place your water bottle into the charged brewing stand and simply add nether wart. Or in the little book I have in game, one wart of nether.

Thick potion

A thick potion isn't going to do much on its own either, but it can be used to brew the potion of weakness. All you need to do for this potion is brew some glowstone dust into your bottle of water. One pinch of it will work just fine.

Mundane potion

This potion acts the same as the thick potion. It doesn’t do anything on its own. However, it can be used to start making a potion of weakness. Mundane potions can be made using any one of a wide range of ingredients. You can use redstone dust, sugar, blaze powder, a ghast tear, a glistening melon, a rabbit's foot, a spider's eye or a magma cream. Brew any one of these ingredients into your water bottle for a mundane potion.

Potion of weakness

A potion of weakness is brewed to impact its targets strength in a negative way for one minute and thirty seconds. If you’re looking to make it last longer, brew it by using a mundane potion instead of a bottle of water. It’ll change to last up to four minutes.

In order to make this potion, you’ll need to brew a fermented spider's eye into one of the five options. A water bottle, a thick potion, a mundane potion, an awkward potion, or a potion of strength.

Having my own means of reference inside the game has been a pretty neat feature. If you’d like to keep a reference in your own world, I highly encourage it. I know consoles can make writing long streams of text a pain, but I’ve found it to be a pretty neat touch to the experience when you have something in game to look back on for information. I’ll be continuing this guide every Wednesday for a little. Thank you for reading.
