Some Minecraft gamers enjoy making improvements to the villages on their map. One of them being myself. The improvements can include renovating the houses, rebuilding farmlands, upgrading the shops, and so much more. While renovating can be rewarding at the end of it all, adding your own elements can bring your village to a whole new level. In this article, I’ll be going over the step-by-step process to building a lighthouse that can be used as a fitting addition to any costal village.

Let's get this build started with an inventory check. You’ll find the items you’ll need in this image. If you want to keep to overworld items, the shroomlight can be replaced with a block of cobblestone and a few torches.

Other items can be swapped out for a similar counterpart if you want to keep with a particular village design. For example, the oak wood logs can be replaced with spruce, and the terracotta can be taken out entirely. Change the pattern a bit and boom, you’ve got a lighthouse for a taiga village.

Step 1)

You’ll want to make a circle for your base. Place 3 blocks down in a row and go out diagonally by 3 blocks. Use the third block to start you next row of 3 and continue this pattern until you have a circle.

Step 2)

Start building up with some white terracotta. Leave one space at the first and second level for your door. When doing that second layer of terracotta, leave some space for windows. Place glass panes at each of the ends that doesn't include the door.

Step 3)

Top off the base of this lighthouse with one last layer of white terracotta. Place a torch above the door for a simple light source. Now it’s time to start on the thin tower portion of this build with cobblestone blocks and slabs. The slabs are placed on top of the white terracotta while the cobblestone blocks are placed on the inside, just behind the slabs. Add oak wood planks as a small floor inside the cobblestone layer.

This can also be a good opportunity to start on the stairway. Start your oak wood stairs one block diagonal to the center of your base. Place an oak wood block behind it, then step next to that block to start the next stair. This should start you on a spiral staircase with an empty space in the center. If you know you can be clumsy with stairs, you can add fencing in that center as a rail.

Step 4)

From the cobblestone blocks, add another layer of white terracotta. After you have one full layer, keep building up with the white terracotta while leaving space for windows. You’ll want to repeat this pattern twice. The pattern being full, window, window. Then another full, window, window. Top off this section of the build using a layer of white terracotta and a layer of cobblestone. This layer should be where that staircase ends with oak wood planks as a floor.

Step 5)

Build up another three blocks tall with white terracotta. Then, add a fourth layer of cobblestone. Fill that layer in with oak wood blocks as the ceiling and leave one space empty for a trap door. The inside should have a couple ladders leading to the trap door from the floor where your staircase ends. On the outside, place upside-down stairs around the entire layer. Make sure you connect the stairs, that way it’s as if the structure has gone back out by 1 block. Place cobblestone walls on top of the stairs and add torches as needed. The top to this part of the build should look something like the picture below.

Step 6)

Getting started on where our light is going to sit, we’ll need a small 3X3 base of cobblestone blocks. Take cobblestone walls and go 2 blocks high before putting down more cobblestone blocks on the top. Go around that top layer with cobblestone stairs, then cobblestone slabs. This should create a 3X3 cobblestone pillar with a flat 7X7 top.

Step 7)

On the top of all of this, place your light source at the center block. That block can be a shroomlight, glowstone, torches on a cobble stone block, etc. Leave one block of space on all sides. After that, take railing, power railing, and detector railing and place them down to make a 5X5 square. You’ll want to place it all down in a way that puts regular rail at the corners. Place a minecart with a chest on the rail and get it rolling. The different rails will keep the cart going.

Step 8)

We’re going to close this part of the build with glass panes going 2 blocks high, from the cobblestone slabs, all the way around. Place cobblestone stairs on top of the glass and close it off with cobblestone blocks. The very top of this build should have a 3X3 base of cobblestone block, surrounded by walls, with a lightning rod at the center.

Fill in the build however you want to and ta-da! A neat and somewhat functional lighthouse for your village. You can add job blocks to make it someone's place of work, or a bed and some interior decorating to make it a home. Why not both? I hope you and your villagers enjoy this build. Thank you for reading.
